About the 2022 – 2021 Summit Series:
STREAM and SEL series

This summit, “Reversing the decline in the quality of education, and its impact on other countries” is presented by Bridge Africa Foundation (BAF). It is an event that brings together educators, students, investors in the educational sector to discuss how the quality in education can be revived through an apt program that includes STEM, which we call STREAM in our organization, having added reading and art. This online event combines thoughts of educationists, students, professionals, and even professors from different parts of the world to create an educational, fun-filled, and inspirational experience you won’t want to miss.

The reversal of the decline in the quality of education summit will take place on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, hosted virtually from our office in Ohio, USA, at 10 a.m. EST. Everyone is welcome to attend.

This event connects education with industry and diverse communities, locally, nationally and internationally to tackle workable solutions to boost quality learning.  Bridge Africa Foundation through this summit is executing its mission to enhance quality in social and academic education for children and youths in Africa. We believe every child should have access to a basic quality education. An education that can set children up with life skills, elevate them out of poverty, by making them more employable.

Summit Series
On May 18th we will be discussing the “S” in STREAM. STREAM stands for Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Math. Science in education does not often get the attention it deserves in African schools. Over the years some curriculums have suffered more damage done to their science education, because of a lack of resources. The focus has moved away form – Let us target student thinking and learning needs to a design of suitable and practical tasks. In this way you find science has become a list of accepted facts, when in fact it should be a process. When we look at 3 teaching methodologies in other countries like, USA, United Kingdom, and Finland. There are differences, and innovations which we should take note of, and methodologies that would guide us in asking the right questions. In conclusion, if we could make one change, and take initiative steps to improve science education in Africa, what would they be? BAF’s approach is to talk about the little steps to be taken, in the short term, as we focus on solutions that can be implemented in the short term to impact the education of children and youths. However, it would be ignorant to overlook the solutions that can be available in the long term. We all know a long term soon enough, becomes a short term.

Elisha is founder of Welicar a school, a collaboration partner for Bridge Africa, with 300 plus children, a Elisha leads kids from the slums to a promising and excellent future.

In 2006 the vision to provide a non fee paying education for the most destitute children in Kibera was conceived by Elisha Ooga and his supporters who shared the same struggle of growing up in Kibera Slums as he fully understood the disadvantages that the children of Kibera face every single day of their lives.

The vision to provide education for these destitute children developed during their time spent visiting the homes of Kibera residents to provide words of comfort and to preach the word of God. It was during this time that it became apparent to the Director of the school, Elisha Ooga that hundreds of children were being forced to take to the streets and were being led into dangerous and unhealthy pursuits in order to put a little food and water into their stomachs.  They felt a strong obligation to  give these desperately destitute children some hope of achieving a decent future for themselves outside of the otherwise inevitable constraints of total poverty. https://www.welicareducationalcentre.org
